Ling (Molva molva)
Appearance: The Ling is recognised by its long shape, something between a Cod and an Eel. The colour is reddish-brown dorsally, grading to white ventrally. The thread of beard it has is longer then the diameter of the eye. The Ling also has two dorsal fins, one short and one long that stretches all the way down to the tail fin.

Weight: max ca. 30 - 35 kg
We have three types of Ling in Europe, and the Ling belongs to one of the largest Cod fish. It is located at a depth between 60 - 1000 metres. They occur mainly on rocky bottoms in fairly deep water, alone or in a small shoal. Feeds mainly on other fish (Cod, Herring, Flatfish), but also eats Lobster, Cephalopods and Starfish. The spawn field is located in the North Sea, and north of Great Britain. The spawn period is between April and June. Ling is mainly an important fish in Norway, Great Britain and Germany.
