Redfish (Sebastes marinus)

Appearance: The Redfish body consist of many scales, and the mouth as the rest of the body is pale red. The male has visible genitals, and both male and female have most of their head covered with bone plates.

Weight: Up to ca. 15 kgNormal 0,5kg - 3kg

The Redfish is a slow growing specie, and it is gregarious throughout life. It is found at a depth between 100 - 500 metres. The mating season takes place from August to October in the Barentshavet. During winter time the wandering towards the spawn field in the south starts (Outside Vesterålen). Redfish feed mostly on euphausiids in summer, Herrings in autumn and winter, Capeins, Herring, Euphausiids and Cteophores in spring. They are fished mostly by Germany, Iceland and Russia.
